This is something I had been wanting to put together ever since I published my short story Last Dance in February 2024. Now that I had been given the time to focus on something other than my other work,1 I was able to create this: a DJ set comprised of tracks in the genres of Nu Disco and Soul, most of which had played on the night that inspired that story.
Here’s the track list:
6th Borough Project—Just A Memory
Davis—You're My Everything
Fred Everything—Friday ft. Vanessa Baker (Crazy P's Remix)
The Juan Maclean—A Simple Design (Purple Disco Machine Remix)
Crazy P—Witch Doctor (Karma of Dove Remix)
Escort—Animal Nature
Fred Everything—Don't Nobody (Hot Toddy Remix)
Purple Disco Machine—Emotion
Purple Disco Machine—Up and Down
Marvin Gaye—I Want You (Last Dance Extension)
It’s my hope that when you listen to this DJ set—especially the Marvin Gaye track at the end—you’re taken back to a moment in your life where you felt the kind of unbridled joy that I felt that night from being able to let down my guard and lose myself in the arms of someone I truly loved.
To see how the events of that night, which inspired this DJ set, have also influenced the themes in my novel, The Beautiful World of the Alive, click on this link to Amazon and find out, or subscribe (if you haven't already).
